The Page a Day Writers Group

Trish Wilkinson

Educator by day,  Rock ‘N Roll singer by night, and ALWAYS the storyteller, Trish Wilkinson began teaching in 1984 on “Emergency Credential” in East Los Angeles to finance her music habit. She never dreamed helping kids grow to love writing as much as she does would be more fun than screaming into a microphone. The surprising side-effect: her “disadvantaged” students scored “proficient” and “advanced” on state tests. Trish went back to school to get a real teaching credential and eventually gave workshops to support other teachers in creating20131203_D800_trishwilkinson_rosejackett_4296_8x12 super-charged writing programs. After 23 years in the classroom, Trish went home to spend more time with her adolescent daughters – and to launch her writing career.

Trish earned her Bachelor of Arts degree at California State University, Long Beach, her teaching credential at California State University, Los Angeles, and took graduate classes at California State University, Chico to earn her Language Development Specialist certification.

The UCLA Writers’ StudioWriters’ Retreat WorkshopLongridge Writers’ Group, and classes through Media Bistro and Writer’s Digest have helped to hone Trish’s writing skills. She is involved with talented novelists and journalists, such as the Page-a-Day Writers, who provide valuable feedback to each other for revisions, and most important, Trish has put in Gladwell’s ten-thousand hours of practice. Trish is also an active member of San Diego Writers’ Ink and the Society of Children’s Books Writers and Illustrators.

San Diego Family Magazine has published several articles written by Trish, including cover stories, and she wrote for The Coronado Eagle and Journal. She writes about the monthly adventures of Hermanitas® for the MANA de San Diego newsletter (She’s been a mentor to young Latinas since 2009), she posts weekly on her blog Tenacity to Triumph: The Bad Ass Code, is seeking representation for her YA novel TWO FEET, NO SHOES, and she coaches as well as does content and line editing for other writers (see www.write-to-win.com).

The Wilkinsons’ daughters have recently gone off to college, so Trish lives in San Diego with her awesome husband, Chuck, and their rambunctious retriever, Alice.
