Educator by day, Rock n’ Roll singer by night, Trish Wilkinson began her teaching career in 1984 in Los Angeles, California to finance her music habit. In the classroom, she fell in love with educating children and seldom screams into microphones anymore. After 23 years with bouts in each grade, kindergarten through sixth, and specializing in teaching writing and training other teachers to develop successful writing programs, she came home to spend more time with her adolescent girls. Today Ms. Wilkinson fuels her creative passions through writing with the fabulous support of the Page a Day Writers Group.
Ms. Wilkinson writes freelance articles for magazines and newsletters. She also writes a young adult fiction series about a Latina named Maria del Mar who lives in Echo Park, a small section of Los Angeles, California. Maria’s martial arts skills and loyalty to her friends alternately help her out and get her into big trouble.
Ms. Wilkinson is also writing a book called Grade by Grade: Excellent Elementary Education Made Easy that gives parents the heads up on what’s coming socially, emotionally and academically in each school year. Chapters also provide parents with a wealth of fun, age appropriate activities to maximize kids’ learning in school. Visit gradebygrade.com to get information and to subscribe to Ms. Wilkinson’s newsletter. Her blog http://trish-trishblog.blogspot.com also offers all kinds of helpful hints. Parents may leave comments and ask questions to get answers to recreate any situation in their children’s education.
Raised in Los Angeles, Ms. Wilkinson earned her BA at California State University, Long Beach, her teaching credential at California State University, Los Angeles, and took graduate classes at California State University, Chico to earn her Language Development Specialist certification.
Ms. Wilkinson lives in San Diego with her husband, Chuck, her teenage girls, Alia and Paige, and her all-American dog, Copper (mixed breed, like most of the rest of us).
